One of the biggest decisions for CC’s program and its 2009-10 prospects rests on goaltender Richard Bachman, but the sophomore said he has not made up his mind about whether he will turn pro after this season. The Dallas Stars hold his rights, and the organization isn’t too deep at the goalie position. Bachman said some of the decision will lie with Dallas and if they want him to turn pro, and a factor in his decision will be whether there is a spot in the organization for him. He said he realized that once an organization’s spots at goaltender are filled, another might not open up “for another 10 years.”
CC’s coaching staff understands there is a chance Bachman doesn’t return for his junior season. But last year’s WCHA player of the year said he will wait until after the season to weigh his options.
“It’s something I haven’t really given a lot of thought to,” Bachman said. “I’m just going to wait until the end of the season”
Haha, turn pro? umm…..not a chance he will ever be a regular player above the ECHL, but hey, throw away your scholarship, great idea!
I do not get to see alot of the games, but it seems he has suffered a sophmore slump. Has it been him, the team in front of him, or a little of both? It seems the drop in play may keep him in school another year to develop???
I bet he got a girlfriend after all his fame last year. She is taking you down Bach!
ckj, been meaning to answer you — sorry for the delay. I think mistakes by his teammates have contributed to plenty of goals, but Bachman is to blame as well. He has been very good this year, just not great. It’s tough when you are great as a freshman, like he was. The bar is very high. As for his pro decision, I think he’ll take into account if the Dallas organization has a role for him in its system. He’ll weigh that against whether he wants to enjoy college for another year and make the best decision for his career. As far as his development, I’ve always felt a player can improve greatly when he is in the pros, working at it every day without having to worry about classes or other distractions.
Frank – thanks for the note. Saw the Minny games this weekend and he had some big saves.
