The first steps toward figuring out how Colorado College’s season will develop over the next seven games starts today with the home and season-opening series against Hockey East member Northeastern.
The biggest question is in net. Coach Scott Owens said freshman Joe Howe will start tonight with a game-time decision to be made Saturday between Howe, junior Tyler O’Brien and freshman Hudson Stremmel.
Northeastern faces a similar unsettled goalie situation with junior goalie Mike Binnington (three games experience) facing a challenge from freshmen Chris Rawlings. Binnington (three goals) and Rawlings (two) both played in a 7-5 exhibition win over St. Thomas.
If preseason polls are any indication, this series should be a tight one. Northeastern and CC received the same numbers of points in the USA Hockey/USA Today preseason poll while the No. 20 Huskies were ranked ahead (25 points) of the No. 24 Tigers in the U.S. College Hockey Online/CBS College Sports poll.
