Anchorage-Denver preview

THIS WEEK:The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves will play host to the No. 2/3 Denver Pioneers in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at the Sullivan Arena on Nov. 6-7. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:07 p.m. AST both nights.

THE SERIES – UAA vs. Denver
Overall: DU leads 39-14-5 At UAA: DU leads 17-7-4
Last Meeting: March 14, 2009 -First Round (DU won, 4-3) Streak: DU 2

Notes:Last season UAA and DU met four times, once during regular season and in the 1st round … the teams split the regular-season matchup, with DU wining on Jan. 30, 2009 (6-2), followed by a 3-2 OT Seawolf win on Jan. 31 … the Pioneers swept the first round on March 13-14 in two one-goal games (3-2, 4-3) … in the last 10 meetings, DU leads 9-1-0 … the last time the two teams met at the Sullivan was on Dec. 15, 2007 (DU won, 6-2) … the last home win for the Seawolves against the Pioneers was on Jan. 29, 2000 (2-1).

SCOUTING DENVER:Denver travels to Anchorage undefeated in conference play (3-0-1) and with only two losses overall (vs. Vermont and Ohio State) … DU is tied for first in the conference with Colorado College with 7 points … last weekend, DU played host to Minnesota State at Magness Arena, winning on Oct. 30 (4-3) and tying on Oct. 31 (4-4 OT) … on Oct. 23-24, the Pioneers swept Minnesota on the road, shutting out the Gophers, 3-0 in both games … leading DU offensively are senior forwards Rhett Rakhshani (4-5-9) and Tyler Ruegsegger (4-4-8) … leading from the blue line is sophomore Patrick Wiercioch (1-6-7) … backstopping the defensive end is junior goaltender Marc Cheverie (4-0-0), who leads the WCHA in GAA (1.27), save percentage (.959) and winning percentage (1.000) … due to an injury on Oct. 30, it is likely that Cheverie will not suit up against UAA … between the pipes will be an Anchorage native, freshman Adam Murray (1-2-1, .856 Sv%, 4.27 gaa).
