CC lays out plenty of hits in Game 1
The Tigers initiated much of the physical play and helped draw three Denver penalties in the first period.
The checking line of senior Addison DeBoer, sophomore Nick Dineen and senior Brian McMillin did another nice job initiating contact with a memorable hit by DeBoer on Denver’s John Lee coming with 7:13 left in the first period.
That physical play caught up the Tigers in the second period and both teams had three power plays apiece entering the third period.
Tigers defense sound Friday
A stat I overlooked in the 10 minutes I had to write the story appearing in The Gazette’s print edition was that CC out shot DU 27-18. Considering the talent wearing maroon and gold, that is impressive.
Considering the way Marc Cheverie played in net for Denver, CC may need to out-shoot No. 2 DU again Saturday to pull off the road win.
“We have to play better,” Tigers coach Scott Owens said. “That’s the No. 1 goalie in the nation and it showed. I’d feel a lot better with a win under our belts.”
