p3170813No. 3 Colorado College has added a goalie for the second half of the season.

Owatonna (Minn.) Express goalie Mike Shibrowski will join the team after Christmas break, he confirmed Thursday night. His first practice will be Dec. 26.

Tigers coach Scott Owens confirmed the program is recruiting Shibrowski but cannot comment under NCAA rules until he arrives at the school.

Shibrowski said he was a little surprised when the coaches approached him a couple weeks ago.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “It’s a great hockey program, team and school. My goal has always been to play college hockey.”

He hopes to make the trip to Estero, Fla. where the Tigers (11-4-3) will take on No. 4 Cornell Dec. 29 as part of the four-team Florida College Classic tournament.

The Tigers (8-3-3 league) are second in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Shibrowski is excited to play in the top league in the nation.

“It will be a step up,” Shibrowski said. “It will be faster because everyone’s pretty good. I’ll just try to work hard and do my part to help the team.”

Shibrowski, of Edina, Minn., is 14-4-2 this season with a 3.09 goals against average and a .895 save percentage in the North American Hockey League. He has one shutout win this season for the Express (15-10-2). Shibrowski, 19, played midget hockey last season.

Mike is a big reason we are are where we are,” Express coach Pat Cullen said earlier this season on letsplayhockey.com. “He works extremely hard everyday and makes the saves we feel he should make. His consistency has been excellent, and I think he’s a goalie with a very bright future.”

Shibrowski, 6-2, 175 pounds, takes the spot of departed freshman Hudson Stremmel who left school to play for the Prince George (B.C.) Cougars of the Western Hockey League.

CC senior Bernie Horowwitz has since helped with drills during practice. The other goalies on the roster are freshman Joe Howe (10-3-3, 2.17, .926) and junior Tyler O’Brien (1-1, 2.51, .896).
