From the Wisconsin State Journal …
Before leaving Wednesday for St. Paul, Minn., site of the WCHA Final Five, UW men’s hockey coach Mike Eaves offered some insight into his lone lineup change.
Senior Andy Bohmbach has been moved from left wing on the fourth line to right wing on the third line, working with senior left winger John Mitchell and senior center Aaron Bendickson.
The corresponding move has junior Patrick Johnson moving to left wing on the fourth unit with junior center Sean Dolan and senior right winger Ben Grotting.
Eaves said the move has more to do with the improved work of Bohmbach, but Eaves didn’t pull any punches assessing Johnson, who played well in February — especially series with Minnesota State-Mankato and Michigan Tech – but has regressed of late.
“Patty was really good there against Mankato and Tech,” Eaves said. “The last couple weeks he’s fallen off and Bomber’s continued to play well even in his (limited) role (on the fourth line). So it’s a combination of a couple things.”
Johnson, whose last goal came 22 outings ago vs. Michigan Tech, has three shots and is a minus-2 over his last four games. He shows 3 goals, 4 assists, 7 points and a plus-8 rating in 36 games overall.
Bohmbach, meanwhile, shows 9-10-19 with a plus-14 rating in 37 games. He has 5-4-9 in his last nine outings.
The Badgers face St. Cloud State in the Final Five semifinals Friday at 2:07 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center.
