The Panthers on Wednesday announced that Mark Cullen had successful surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon on Tuesday and he is expected to be out at least four months.

Former Tiger Joey Crabb had a shot in Toronto’s loss while Christian Hanson, reportedly son of one of Hanson brothers of Slap Shot fame according to articls last season, got inot a five-minute major for fighting. No joke.

The Sweatt brothers are the subject of a Canucks feature on nhl.com. Lee Sweatt got some attention from a blogger as well talking about his determination to make the Canucks roster. They also played together in Canucks hoem preseason loss Tuesday night. Both performed well, especially Lee according to the Province.

Kyle Turris had a goal and an assist during the Coyotes’ four-goal second period, and Phoenix beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 Tuesday night in both clubs’ preseason opener. Curtis McElhinney stopped 20 shots, and Jason Levasseur made 16 saves in Anaheim’s net.
