CC rolling four lines
A possible advantage for Colorado College this weekend, especially if the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series goes three games, will be its ability to play four lines. That combined with the altitude could wear down the Badgers.
“We are two similar teams,” Tigers coach Scott Owens said. “Both teams are short on D and both have two good goaltenders. But most teams only play four lines while we have been able to roll 4 lines. That has helped us.”
The fourth line for the Badgers – Ryan Little, Jefferson Dahl and Keegan Meuer – posted a combined 14 points during the regular season, but almost had three goals (one was disallowed).
“Their fourth line did what a fourth line needs to do,” Owens said. “They played with energy.”
CC forecheck clicking early
An aggressive Colorado College forecheck, sometimes going to two forwards instead of the usual one, forced Wisconsin into icing the puck five times in the first two periods.
Travel travails
With so many teams, basketball and hockey, traveling this weekend, getting a seat on an airline proved difficult for the Badgers this week.
Wisconsin had to charter a flight to send most of the Badgers while getting the remainder on a commercial flight to Colorado Springs on Thursday. The Wisconsin team bus drove 12 hours with their equipment and picked up the players at the airport. Minnesota State-Mankato bused its entire team to Denver for its series against the Pioneers.

[...] Wisconsin 3 vs. Colorado College 1 – The Wisconsin Badgers have gone 2-6-1 since February but are on a modest two game unbeaten streak. I still think that the Badgers are going to have to run the table to make the NCAA tourney and have struggled against teams above them in the standing and in the top twenty rankings. The Wisconsin Badgers got timely scoring from their fourth line of Ryan Little (1g-0a-1pts) Jefferson Dahl (1-1-2pts) and Keegan Meuer (0g-1a-1pts) help the Badgers beat the Tigers in Colorado Springs 3-1. Wisconsin Badgers Senior goalie Scott Gudmandson stopped 27/28 shots to push the homesteading Tigers to the brink of elimination. [Madison.com], [Eye of the Tigers] [...]
