I am hosting an online chat to discuss Air Force and CC playoff hockey at noon Mountain today at gazette.com/sports. Please join in.
Coach Don Lucia may not be as embattled as the Minnesota fan boards suggest. He and the school are talking about a contract extension. Gopher senior Jacob Cepis has signed with the AHL’s Lake Erie Monsters while junior defenseman Aaron Ness will leave early to join the Islanders organization.
Here are Anchorage’s weekly preview notes. Make sure to check out CC’s recent video interview with Brett Sterling. He does a great job promoting the college.
Anchorage freshman goalie Chris Kamal took advantage of the chances he was given after suffering a broken leg on a construction job.
Former Tiger Richard Petiot came close to ending his 52-game goal-less streak recently.
Here is some preview work on the UMD-Bemidji series by the reliable Bruce Ciskie.
Terry Martin, father of injured DU forward Jesse Martin, wrote a column talking about blows to the head (one against UND broke Jesse’s neck vertebrae and almost killed him) and NHL rules. Amazingly, he will meet with Minneapolis-based doctors on Thursday (confirmed by his coach in Tuesday’s conference call) to talk about his chances at playing hockey for the Pioneers again, perhaps this 2011-12 season.
The coaching carousel has begun spinning a little faster with changes at Providence and UMass-Lowell, though I am guessing most top candidate have an eye on a gig at Penn State or Michigan State.
