First off, I want to congratulate the Grand Forks Herald’s Brad Schlossman for a fine job breaking the story about the new “super league.”

The Anchorage AD confirmed the super league and took issue with how it all came together in a “a really sneaky back-door deal.”  He also confirmed the surviving members and WCHA officials are meeting in Minnesota next week.

The Wisconsin State Journal columnist and beat writer says don’t lay blame for this Super League on the formation of the Big 10.

The Grand Forks Herald sees this as an opportunity for the remaining WCHA and CCHA teams to suddenly contend for league titles and NCAA bids on a more consistent basis.

Here’s College Hockey News’ take on the new “super league” along with a good story by the Mankato Free Press.

Here’s the Denver Post’s story and an excellent article by the Duluth News Tribune’s Kevin Pates who played a big role in confirming the league as well as Omaha’s Chad Purcell, who adds some UNO perspective here.

Here’s the silver lining according to the Anchorage fan blog. Fairbanks wisely made a show of strength and stability by extending coach Dallas Ferguson.

The Red Wings hired Western Michigan’s Jeff Blashill as an assistant. You have to think WMU alumnus and longtime CC assistant Joe Bonnett is high on their list (a finalist in 2010) to replace him.
