In the pros, the Leafs are still talking to former Tiger Joey Crabb.
Assistant captain David Civitarese is at the Capitals development camp and he scored a goal in one scrimmage.
Here’s more on Mike Guentzel. The biggest news in it may be that someone actually managed to sell their house in this market.
The Wisconsin State Journal says it is unlikely the Big 10 and NCHC would sign a comprehensive scheduling agreement if only to avoid having a murderous schedule.
That is a very good point both conferences must consider. Maintaining rivalries will be a concern so expect North Dakota-Minnesota and Duluth-Minnesota to happen regularly.
That also means some dates — dependent on the number of teams in the league — may be open, increasing the chance that Air Force may play CC and Denver twice a year starting with the 2013-14 season, which CC AD Ken Ralph has since confirmed as a possibility. Cross your fingers, Falcon and Tiger fans.
Bemidji State expressed its commitment to the WCHA. The remaining five schools meet today in Minnesota so expect similar statements and sentiments to be made public soon. More from St. Cloud State’s president.
North Dakota lost an incoming recruit to the OHL. That hurts a team looking to replace six of its top seven scorers.
Wisconsin’s Craig Smith will forgo his final two years to join the Predators organization.
And finally, here’s some humor about Wednesday’s press conference.
Question: Why is CC so nice and plays at Air Force?
The World Arena holds over 7,300 and Cadet Ice Arena holds just over 2,300.
You would think the CC-AF game would always be at World Arena. Or play a 3-game series, where 2 games are at World Arena and 1 is at Cadet Ice Arena.
CC has a lot more to lose playing at Air Force, than Air Force does playing at CC. Money first of all and wins secondly. Although Air Force never beats CC no matter where they play.
Am I crazy?
no, your arrogant and uniformed. C.C. would have to pay air force to come down there. with a home and home no cash is excahnged. in the early 90′s the tigers were bad, on probation, and the rink was condemned and torn down. there had been talks of shuttering the program, which would have been easy since they had no rink, or plans to build one. The Academy steped in let them play there to save the program, they had no obligation to be “nice” (did the same for denver while building magness) since then c.c. has become respectable but not near the levels of North Dakota, boston, b.c., minnesota, du, and Michigan. They all have multiple titles during that time frame to back up their claims of elite status. The El Pomar foundation did not have to be “nice” and build a civic rink and allow c.c. to call it home either. The world arena sucks as a college rink, olympic size ice makes for a less physical game. The CIA is small and has it’s own charm like many of the great college rinks. The only thing worldarena has on CIA is alcohol sales. CIA also can fit in 3500. And the last that series had a lopsided win it was Air Force beating the tigers. Their is more parody there than you credit, the toothpick in Yale’s loss column for the first three months was handed to them by AF, after the tigers got drilled on their home ice.
Bluefan – who is the arrogant one?
1) Air Force has only beat CC once in the last 30+ years, with many of those years having 2 games. CC dominates AF on the ice. It’s not even close.
2) CC pays non-conference guarantees all the time, that’s the great thing about a 7,500 seat Arena. And by the way, Cadet Ice Arena does not hold 3,500 even with the standing room only behind the goals. Come on.
Sounds like someone is a little jealous of CC Hockey.
I am not the one saying C.C. is being nice and should not have to play at little ole air force’s rink.
Since Serratore has built up the program the games have been close, Air Force outshot them this season, and had they started Torf might have been a different outcome, that was bosner’s last apperance in net.
C.C. might have more pure skill, but AF can outwork teams. AF also pays teams to come in, they could just as easily pay cc to play north every year. I admit 3500 is an overstatement, but they have put in over 3000 a couple of times with standing room.
Not jealous of cc hockey, just tired everybody giving them an “elite” status they have never earned, in the last 5 years Air Force was closer to the frozen 4 than cc, Meanwhile both Bemidji and RIT have made it. with the schools having the toughest draws playing the overall 1 seeds.
CC hockey is “elite”. Look at the conference championships, the ncaa appearances, the NHL players, the games on TV, an FM radio station carrying the games and the crowds & interest in Colorado Springs – that’s with many wins over elite programs like Boston College, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Denver and North Dakota – not just one lucky win that an Air Force or an RIT might get once every 3 to 5 years. You can’t deny that CC dominates Air Force on the ice. A goalie making a difference last year – are you f**king kidding me. Were you there??? Even with crappy Atlantic Hockey officials trying to help the poor little cadets, CC dominated.
And technically Air Force has never been any closer than CC to making the Frozen Four in the last 5 years. Air Force lost a few years ago to Vermont and CC lost last year to Michigan – both for the chance to make the Frozen Four……Oh and by the way CC has been to numerous Frozen Fours, even as recent as 6 years ago….Air Force has been to Zero.
Serratore admits himself he cannot compete like CC and DU do. He wants the easy Atlantic Hockey schedule against programs without scholarships and then he takes his “one chance” to beat a team in the NCAA Tournament. It works for Serratore, but again that is why CC is “elite” in the world of college hockey – look at the new National Conference – Air Force wasn’t even mentioned a a viable team.
And how can Air Force “pay” CC to play at Cadet Ice Arena. They sell tickets for $5 and holds 2,500 – not to mention all the free tickets to the cadets. CC makes 20 times that money in one home game at The World Arena.
bluefan enjoy your Falcon Football, but trying to compare AF hockey to CC is a battle you will NEVER win. Have fun this season watching Bentley, Mercyhurst, AIC, Sacred Heart, Holy Cross, Canisius and Niagara at Cadet Ice Arena – oh, I can’t wait!
This is fun…
Although my team will always be the Tigers, it should always be respected and appreciation shown for AFA’s offer of their facility when CC’s rink at Broadmoor was torn down. My feeling is that AFA is “the other Colorado Springs” team and the only time I don’t cheer for them is vs the Tigers.
Likewise, I don’t care to get into the chest-pounding of ‘who is better or more elite.’ The AFA belongs to a weaker conference and prefers to stay there (per Serratore), but we should also remember that they have improved considerably in the last few years and under Serratore’s leadership, they manage to give CC and DU some heartburn now, with 1 win over CC and 1 win over DU in recent years. Something that would have been unheard of 5-10 years ago.
Scientific Study.
Colorado Springs residents favorite teams:
1. Broncos
2. CC Hockey and AF Football
3. Rockies
4. Avalanche
5. Nuggets
6. Colorado Buff Football
7. Sky Sox
AF Hockey is not even on the radar in this town. Nor should it be.
Why doesn’t anyone talk AF Hockey on the Air Force Blog???
