Sources close to the CC hockey program said earlier Tuesday that former Tigers defenseman and St. Cloud State assistant Eric Rud, currently the coach of the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers, will soon be hired to fill the assistant coach position vacated by Jason Lammers.
The announcement. pending the final paperwork, could be made as early as Wednesday.
Rud was voted the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and earned all-league honors in his final two campaigns at Colorado College, which a national runner-up finish in 1996.
Rud appeared in 168 consecutive games when the Tigers won WCHA regular-season titles in 1994, 1995 and 1996. He graduated with a psychology degree.
Rud was an assistant coach at St. Cloud State for five years, when the program made three NCAA tournament appearances and four trips to the WCHA Final Five. Rud served as an assistant at Colorado College during the 2004-05 season when the Tigers advanced to the Frozen Four.
This past season at Green Bay, Rud’s Gamblers (41-15-4) gave up a league low 131 goals and advanced to the league finals. He also coached incoming CC freshman defenseman Aaron Harstad.
WOOOOO HOOOO!!!!! Tiger fans have been hoping for a Rud return, but there are so many opportunities for such a quality coach [like Eric] that it didn’t appear that it could happen. This is fantastically GREAT news!!!
This could be the National Championship season. With the Schwartz brothers and all the supporting talent, could be a very fun season to watch!
Welcome home, Captain Rud!
Can’t wait to hear the crowd chant RUUUUUUUUDDDDD again like they used to for him. This is a great addition to a very strong lineup. Maybe this is finally our year.
If Bonnet ends up getting the Western Michigan job, I wouldn’t mind RJ Enga or Ryan Bach being the other assistant coach.
Our blue line will greatly benefit from having Rud on the bench. I would expect a Hobey Baker caliber season from Guenztel and big improvements from Marciano and McDermmot.
Great news! Welcome back Eric!!
