Colorado College center Rylan Schwartz (above on the right) was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday – his third honor of the season as a result of a four-point effort last weekend in a road sweep of Minnesota State-Mankato.
Schwartz scored two goals and recorded two assists Saturday in helping the No. 5 Tigers (11-5) to a 6-2 victory against Minnesota State. He netted the game-winner in the second period, and in the first, he tallied on the power play and set up Mike Boivin’s power-play goal. He also assisted on William Rapuzzi’s empty-net goal in the third. For the weekend, he took 13 shots, came home with a plus-one rating and prevailed on 14 of 22 faceoffs.
A junior, Schwartz holds the team lead with 23 points, 16 goals, six power-play goals and three game-winners. His 23 points are the 10th-most in the WCHA, his 16 goals are tied for the second-most in the country and his average of 1.07 goals a game leads the nation. Among current CC players, he’s tops with 89 career points, including 32 career goals.
